As IGAM we commemoreted 20 June, World Refugee Day with events lasting two days.
Day 1:
We organized a harmonization picnic and bazaar together with the Gökyüzü Sanatsal İyilik Foundation on Saturday, June 19.
In this event, after the opening speeches, the participants who visited the exhibition of pictures of refugees and watched a wonderful concert; presented by Mrs. İnci Ayağ and Selma Öğüt together with classical musicians.
During the picnic, the products of Refugee women who work under the roof of IGAM Cooperative (İGAMKOOP) were exhibited and the meals they prepared were offered for sale.
After the picnic, the sales revenues were transferred to the refugees who are members of İGAMKOOP, an interview was held with the young people who are members of the Young Leaders Committee of the I-Save Project led by İGAM. In this committee, the youth of Turkey and Refugee develop instructive projects in the field of advocacy and they organize various activities.
Day 2:
It started with the ceremony of the IGAM 2021 Awards on Sunday, June 20.
In this section which was held online, firstly, IGAM President Metin Çorabatır and Prof. Dr. Murat Erdoğan made the opening speeches moderated by Dr. Nihal Eminoğlu. At the ceremony where the coordinators of the IGAM 2021 Awards, Miray Akçay, and Aslıhan Uz talked about the award process, the awards given to Angela Bourdett-Coutts Award winner ARSA (Afgan Refugees Solidarity Association) President Zakira Hekmat, and Talat Miras Award winner Association of Assistance Solidarity and Support for Refugees And Asylum Seekers representatively. Also, jury members gave speeches of each at the ceremony.
On the same day, one of the world’s most important researchers and experts in the field of migration, Oxford academic member Prof. Dr. Guy S. Goodwin – Gill gave a conference about “ The International Refugees Regime and its Challenges”. In the conference moderated by Prof. Dr. Kemal Kirişçi, at the same time Prof. Goodwin-Gill answered the questions of the academicians and participants who attended the conference.
The second day ended with the interview of volunteers of Quality Education Without Distance.
