Our Choir Project

In 2017, IGAM initiated a mixed and polyphonic ‘Our Choir’ project consisting of refugee and Turkish children with approximately 60 students. The first objective of the project is to fuse Turkish and refugee youth around the universal language of music, and the second objective is to eliminate negative prejudices against refugees through the polyphonic universal music channel.
Our Choir gave a concert with sincere remarks of the Undersecretary of the US Embassy on June 20, World Refugee Day. They also gave concerts at the events organized by the World Food Program and Food and Agriculture Organizations and at the 2019 World Refugee Day event. Such events will continue next year.
During the implementation of the project; It has once again been discovered that music is also a very useful tool in overcoming the trauma of young refugees. The project was financed by the US Embassy.

Our Choir 2nd Part
Date: 01.03.2018-01.12.2018
The project includes literature and poetry activities to help the Turkish and refugee people better understand that Arab and Turkish languages have influenced each other for centuries. Thanks to the weekly rehearsals conducted under the supervision of two valuable Turkish opera artists, our choir increased its visibility and had the chance to perform at important events.
