My First Day On Campus Is The Best Day At My University

September 2018- March 2019

It is a pilot project that accommodates Turkish and Syrian students and provides academic and social support to these students. It mainly targets Syrian university students who have just started university in Karabük University, but also includes foreign students and vulnerable students from local people. The project, which is a mixed group of 300 people, aims to increase the success of students in their academic careers and to maximize the social cohesion of the university, city and country. Financed by HOPES.

The project consists of two phases. The first stage is a concentrated orientation week for students to get to know the school, city and country. The second phase of the project includes the dy buddy program amaç aimed at students' success in academic life and the “Storytelling” activity designed to bring people from different groups closer. In the storytelling activity, a Turkish and a Syrian student tell a story as a group. There is no way of expression in the form of translation. One starts in Turkish and the other continues in Arabic. In explaining, students use their gestures, gestures and emotions. The storytelling activity helps to break down prejudice between different groups.

The first day of college has many tensions and challenges for most people. This is even more difficult for students who are foreign to the language of their home country, such as refugee and immigrant students. People's sense of belonging to a group and social cohesion is one of the factors that provide academic success. For this reason, the aim of this project is to ensure the harmony of the students with the orientation program and to reflect this cooperation on their academic achievements.
