According to EURONEWS, after the Governorship of Istanbul’s announcement that Syrians who are not registered to Istanbul are to leave the city and return to their registered provinces, Syrians living in Istanbul plan to organize a large-scale protest, starting from Fatih on July 25th.
According to the IGAM President Metin Çorabatır, whose views were consulted by Euronews, The Syrian’s demonstration in Fatih is a positive step since they employ an instrument that would peacefully voice their refugee-based rights to the political mechanism. On the other hand, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Başak Kale, research associate in METU, has warned that ‘’infringements of laws can be a corollary if the national and international legal procedures are not properly put into action.’’

According to AA Agency, the Turkish Statistical Institution (TSI), the official institution of producing official statistics in Turkey, has published ‘’International Migration Statistics’’ for 2018. Regarding this data, The number of people who migrated to Turkey reached 577.457, which means an increase of 23.8% compared to the previous year. While 52.7% is composing the men, the woman has a ratio of 47.3%.
The number of people immigrating from Turkey is recorded as 323.918, rising by 27.7% compared to the last year of 2017. It is identified that this migrating populace in a ratio is 53.3% men and %46.7 is women. Istanbul became the most receiver of migration influx and the most sender of immigration at the same time. Iraq occupies the first rank in the foreign populace, which migrates to and immigrates from Turkey.

80.000 migrants will be deported this year

According to DHA, Süleyman Soylu, Turkish Ministry of Interior, has said that ‘’We have deported 56.000 illegal migrants in total last year. As of this year, we will conduct a deportation process aiming at approximately 80.000 people, which means an almost 40-50% increase compared to the last year. We are obliged to perform this.’’
Governorship of Istanbul’s action plan against irregular migration

According to NTV, the Governorship of Istanbul has expressed its action plan for fighting irregular migration. It announced that Syrian migrants whose registrations do not exist in Istanbul would be sent to the provinces holding their registration entry. According to IHA, the Turkish Ministry of Interior Süleyman Soylu has pointed out a returning of 337.729 Syrians up to today while stating, ‘’There is a significant number of African people amongst the illegal migrants that we rescued from seas. There are citizens from countries that we hardly ever heard of before. In 2017, we had seized 175.752 irregular migrants in total, both inland and sea. This number climbed to 268.000 for 2018, and it has decreased to 162.692 since up the starting of the new year to today.’’

116 migrants are missing on Libyan coast

The Libyan branch of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), a UN agency established for improving the conditions of refugees, has announced that a ship carrying migrants was submerged on the shores of the Libyan coast, and 100 people might have died. Libyan Navy has also reported that at least 116 migrants are lost while 132 people are rescued.
14 EU member states approve the relocation of migrants

‘’EU-Egypt migration cooperation: at the expense of human rights’’ research, which is a new EuroMed rights study, maps the cooperation between EU member states and Egypt in migration and border management. This study pays attention to the impact of this cooperation on the rights of migrants and refugees in Egypt, and it presents practical recommendations for action. Although Egypt is not standing as an immense major country for migration movement towards Europe, the report displays that the attention towards EU-Egypt migration cooperation predominantly stems from the endeavors of Egypt on reinforcing its image as a regional leader. Besides, it points out Egypt’s objectives, which are ensuring the EU support its counter-terrorism policy and acquires funds for its domestic policies.

RPP’s report on Syrian refugees
